Questions, questions, questions...!

Questions, questions, questions...!

My Most Frequently Asked Questions!

Do you have a shop where I can look at your jewellery in person?

I stock in a couple of shops local to the workshop, The Little Gift House in Caistor Market Place & The Shop in South Elkington.  Both have different pieces of Fred & Emily Jewellery in to look, hold & try on.  If you aren’t local to the area, get in touch, I am happy to help in other ways.

Can I have a piece in a different colour, finish or size?

Absolutely.  If there is a particular piece that you like, but would prefer some alterations making, just let me know. I can swap chain styles & lengths, change ring sizes & gemstones.  I’m happy to look at any alteration you may want to see if it’s possible.

How do I find out my ring size?

The easiest way to find out your ring size is to use a ring sizer. These are available on my website.  They are small measuring tapes that go around your finger & give a letter to represent your size.  Alternatively you can measure the inside diameter of a ring you currently have to give the size – but it must be a ring that fits on the finger you wish to wear your new ring on!

Rings with gemstones in, which are made to your measurement, are non-returnable, so please do get in touch if you would like help sizing.

Do you offer gift wrapping?

Yes, I offer beautiful gift wrapping & presentation boxes to make your gift even more special. Whether you're giving a necklace, a pair of earrings, or a custom-designed piece, I’ll package it with care so that it’s ready for gifting.  I can even send the gift direct to their address, helpful if you are on a tight timeline! (this option is also available on the website)

If I see a piece somewhere else I like, can you make a copy for me?

Designing & making jewellery is a time consuming & personal journey.  I know that a lot of love has gone into designing that piece, so I don’t make direct copies of other people’s work.  However,  I can use it as inspiration to design & make something that is different but works for you.

Do you offer resizing or repair services?

Yes….& no!  If there is a need to repair or resize Fred & Emily work then of course I am very happy to do this.  If it is jewellery made by another brand,  I don’t always know the exact materials used so I am a little more cautious – so as a general rule, I leave repairs to experts in the repair world!

Where does the silver come from?

All of my jewellery is handmade in the Lincolnshire Wolds using only recycled metals, this means that 100% of the silver & gold comes from recycled sources, rather than being mined directly from the ground.

Once the metal is extracted from things like medical products, used silver jewellery & old electronics, it is separated from other metals & melted down before being milled into wire or sheet.  Recycled silver retains all the special qualities of new precious metals, no purity is lost & it must meet strict quality guidelines set out in law.

Will my jewellery be hallmarked?

Some items need to be hallmarked by law, when a product is over 7.75g in weight. When this is the case, I send it to Sheffield Assay Office who then check & stamp the piece to prove it’s quality.

This is to protect you, the consumer. It proves that the silver/gold is of the quality you are being told it is, so you can be more comfortable when purchasing.

Each hallmark is personal. My ‘makers mark’ is two small circles (that represent two potatoes…. a reference to my farming life!) with an ‘L’ & a ‘K’ inside.

Is it all handmade?

Most of my jewellery is handmade from scratch in my workshop on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds. I use wire, sheet & silver art clay to craft each one. Other pieces, I hand carve in wax before sending to a casting house to have each piece cast in the material that you would like. This allows me to be more creative in the shapes that I can use.

Which pieces are the most fun to make…?

This is a tough question… I genuinely love designing & making jewellery! So I enjoy all of it, but I love working on commissions because they allow me to be creative & make something special for someone.  In contrast, I also love making chain (like the Double Trouble bracelet or necklace) , I can sit for hours & shape & solder wire and let my mind wander, occasionally while listening to a podcast or the latest episode of The Archers!   It’s often where I come up with my best business or design ideas!

How can I buy Fred & Emily Jewellery?

The easiest way is to buy from the website where there are lots of pieces either in stock or ready to be made (please check turnaround times for each piece).

You can also contact me through social media, via an online form on the website or through one of the stockists I mentioned above.

If you are looking for a commission to be made, get in touch & we can chat through your thoughts.
