Taking Care of Your F&E Jewellery

Taking Care of Your F&E Jewellery

Jewellery is made to be lived in - to be a part of your everyday, your routines, your moments, your story, & that ethos sits at the heart of F&E.

Over time, though, even the most loved pieces need a little care to keep them looking their best. Nothing complicated, just a few small habits can make a world of difference.

Water, perfume & everyday wear

It’s best to remove your jewellery before showing or bathing, as water, soaps & shampoos can dull the finish over time.

Swimming, especially in chlorinated water, can also affect silver, so I will always, always say remove your jewellery beforehand.

Try to apply perfume, lotions & body sprays before putting your jewellery on, allowing everything to settle first.

How to clean jewellery?

When it comes to bringing back that sparkle, a silver polishing cloth is often all you need. It’s one of the simplest ways to refresh your jewellery & keep it looking new.

For a bit more of a ‘deep clean’, especially if you’re someone who wears stack upon stacks of jewellery (like me), an ultrasonic cleaner (you can easily find them online for a pretty reasonable price) or a silver dip can be used.

Just avoid using these on stone-set pieces, as they do need a gentler touch when it comes to cleaning.

Storing your jewellery

When you’re not wearing your jewellery, it’s best to story in a jewellery box or soft pouch as this helps protect it from air & moisture exposure.

Keeping pieces separate where possible also helps avoid tangling or scratches, especially with more delicate chains.

The best tip? Wear it.

It might sound simple, but jewellery that’s worn often tends to tarnish less. This is because your skin's natural oils & gentle movement help slow down the buildup of tarnish that can happen when silver is left sitting in still air for long periods.

I hope this addition to the jeweller’s diary helps!

All my love,
